The Project
\r\nwildLIFEcrime<\/b><\/h1>\n \n

Illegal wildlife persecution is not only a problem in distant parts of the world, but also here in Europe. Illegal practices such as shooting, trapping and poisoning endanger protected species. As a transnational EU LIFE project, wildLIFEcrime is actively committing to the protection of wild animals in Germany and Austria. In cooperation with 13 partners, we aim to achieve a lasting reduction in wildlife crime. Learn more about our mission.<\/p>\n \n

Prevention<\/h2>\n \n

\n Our holistic approach aims to address not only the impact but also the causes of illegal wildlife persecution in order to prevent it from happening in the first place. This includes both the promotion of research to understand the motives behind such crimes as well as the implementation of proven active conflict management strategies in areas of particularly high activity. Increasing the reporting rate<\/h2>\n \n

\n The detection and reporting of illegal acts against wildlife is of considerable importance. In this context, we are focussing on strengthening the capacities of existing structures and reporting platforms in order to identify, document and report potential cases more effectively. In addition, a centralised case database will be set up on the website. <\/p>\n \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n

Optimising technical and forensic processes<\/h2>\n \n

\n By expanding our capacities and networks, continuously developing our reporting platforms and databases and constantly optimising forensic methods, we strive to improve police investigations and forensic examinations. A targeted transfer of knowledge ensures that the latest expertise and best practices can be applied effectively. <\/p>\n \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n

Strengthening knowledge among police, public prosecutors and judges<\/h2>\n \n

\n Our work includes tailored training programmes for different target groups as well as practice-oriented guidelines to clarify complex legal issues. An extensive case database serves as an important resource for learning from real-life situations and identifying best practices. By networking key players along the criminal prosecution chain, we promote the exchange of information and cooperation to improve criminal prosecution. <\/p>\n \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n

Improving the legal framework<\/h2>\n \n

\n We carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the legal framework, analyse shortcomings and obstacles and develop concrete proposals for improvement. We actively integrate political decision-makers into the process. Our aim is to make information relating to species conservation accessible in order to spark interest and raise awareness. Challenges and solutions should be a regular topic of dialogue between authorities, project partners and other stakeholders. <\/p>\n \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n
